Preventing HIV with Condoms

HIV is a scary disease that affects all people regardless of sexual orientation, race, or religion. It can be passed through sexual intercourse, but can also be prevented through safer sex. No sex is 100% safe from disease prevention, but using condoms every time you engage in sexual intercourse can help you to reduce your chances of catching HIV greatly.

For instance, did you know that using a latex condom during sexual intercourse is about 10,000 times safer than not using a condom? This can make you feel more at ease about rolling down a condom before intercourse. In one study by The New England Journal of Medicine it was found that after 20 months of sexual intercourse between heterosexual couples in which one partner had HIV, there was no transmission of the disease with latex condom usage for both anal and vaginal sex. Those partners who did not use condoms consistently had a 10% infection rate.

Those partners who did not use condoms at all had a 15% infection rate. This shows how effective using latex condoms are in preventing HIV infection. These studies help solidify the facts behind condom usage and can make one feel more confident that they are protecting themselves every time they have sex with a latex condom. It is not worth a few minutes of pleasure for the potential consequences.
