Oil Based Lubricants

Oil based lubricants are very different from their kissing cousin, water based lubricants. Oil based lubricants should never be used in conjunction with a latex condom or any latex product.

Vaseline is a prime example of an oil based lubricant. Baby oil and rice bran oil are two other examples of oil based lubricants that are less viscous than Vaseline. If you reach for the Vaseline on your dresser during sexual intercourse you will be weakening your condom and it will not protect you as well against unwanted pregnancy and STD’s, including HIV. This is because oil based lubricants weaken latex and break it down rendering it much less effective for protection in the bedroom.

It is also important never to use an oil based lube for anal penetration. The oil based lube will coat the rectum and cause an excellent surface for infections. An oil based lube is also more potentially irritating to the vagina than water based lube. They can also leave a coat inside the woman that could be another potential area for infections to develop more easily. So what may you ask are oil based lubricants good for? Well let’s put it this way, oil based lubricants are best reserved for a guy’s one-on-one time than for quality time with his partner!
