Lube and Yeast Infections

Although many women claim to experience yeast infections after using certain lubricant, it has never been fully researched. There are some ideas as to why this may happen and some simple ways to prevent lubricant related yeast infections. Some people think that yeast infections are caused by glycerin which is in many water based lubricants. Glycerin is a sort of sugar alcohol and this sugar could feed the yeast that grows naturally in a woman’s vagina. This is one idea about why lubricants could cause a yeast infection.

It is important to avoid glycerin products if this is a problem for you after intercourse using a water based lubricant with glycerin. Although this could be a reason for yeast infections we still have no hard proof that this is the reason why some women get yeast infections. Since many women experience no negative side effects using this type of lubricant. Glyercin could also potentially exacerbate a yeast infection if you already have one.

Some women who are just more prone to yeast infections in general maybe more prone to getting them by using glycerin based lube. If you haven’t had this problem there is no reason not to use whatever lube is working for you, but you may want to stop using your lube that contains glycerin if yeast infections are a problem for you.
