Lube and Conception

Many people do not know that most water-based lube can have a negative impact if you are trying to conceive. This is not to say that water-based lubricant should be used as a form of contraception, only that they can have a harmful effect on sperm. In recent studies, sperm was mixed with several water based lube and in each case the sperm motility had dropped by 60-100% after just one hour. This is almost the same rate as nonoxyl-9 which is a spermicide! Most sperm mixed in with lube will also die after 24 hours.

The PH in sperm and salinity seem to cause sperm to detoriate. If you need some sort of alternative to water based lube while you are trying for a child, then you can try Pre-Seed. This brand of lube is specially designed to be safe for sperm. Pure glycerin can also be used and has been found safe, but should not be used for those who are prone to yeast infections. There seem to be other do it yourself methods such as egg whites as a natural lubricant. In most cases it would be best to engage in foreplay and lube up naturally while you are trying to conceive.
