Contraceptive Foams

There are many ways to prevent pregnancy and a good contraceptive foam is one of your options. Contraception foam is placed in the vagina using an applicator. The foam works by killing sperm with the spermicide that is in the foam, as well as blocking off access to the woman’s cervical canal. For couples who use this as their main source of birth control over a year’s time about 29% will become pregnant with typical use, while 18% will become pregnant with perfect use. Foam is best used with another type of contraceptive device as well. Foam can be used with condoms to make preventing a pregnancy even safer than a condom alone. Foam can be a little tricky to insert the first time and it is good if the woman can practice using foam before she’s ready to for sex. Foam can be inserted about 20 minutes before intercourse, but will begin to work as soon as it is inserted.Foam is good for women who don’t want to use a hormonal birth control. Some of the downsides to using foam are that it can irritate some women’s vaginas. Some people also feel that the foam is messy. Foam will not protect against STD’s.
